working in the gym this morning, vacuuming, minding my own business.
“you’ll make a good wife, you vacuum very well.”
i scoffed a laugh at him…but he was serious. oh, i thought, wow. i took such a great amount of offence to this single comment. i was yanked right out of my vacuuming daze. and i couldn’t stop thinking about it. i wanted to tell him i would never vacuum for a man. but what i really meant was, if it were a man vacuuming, would the same comment be made? “you know, you’ll make a great husband…”
i don’t think so.
and what a shame that is. i for one would think a man who vacuums well would make a fantastic husband. but, unfortunately for me, society doesn’t think this way. perhaps if men were told that if they did vacuum well, women would be more attracted to them, they would make an effort. or, perhaps not.
for now, i’ll just have to accept the fact that because i can vacuum well, i will make a great wife. well, that’s good to know. at least now i don’t have to worry about accepting part responsibility for the household income and upkeep, assisting in raising children, loving and supporting my husband…you know, all those other things that may suggest the efforts of a “good wife.”
